Crewing

The crew we would put on our own shows

Directors, engineers, vision mixers, camera operators and specialist roles for live and broadcast productions across Europe. Booked from people we work alongside on our own productions.

Where our people come from

You can make a production of one. It is rarely a good idea.

Every job we deliver ourselves needs a crew, and over twenty years that has meant finding, testing and keeping hold of people who are genuinely good. That is the whole basis of this service. We are not an agency working from a database. We are a production company recommending people we have stood next to in a gallery, and the reason we can vouch for them is that we book them for our own shows as well as yours.

Behind the people we call first there is a much wider network built up over the same twenty years. When a job needs a skill set outside our regular circle, we know who to ask.

What makes someone the right hire

Technical competence is where the conversation starts, not where it finishes. Plenty of people know a system. Fewer understand the craft behind it, and fewer still are good to have in the room at hour fourteen.

So we book for three things at once. Can they do the job to a broadcast standard. Do they understand the craft rather than just the equipment. And can they work well with the rest of the team and with the client, who is often standing right there.

That third one is why our list is shorter than it could be. It is also why clients come back and ask for the same names.

Tobin is a well-versed jack-of-all-trades: technician, live director, production manager, you name it. Not only that, Tobin can also be trusted with sourcing amazing production talent and has an eye for what matters in live broadcasting. He has supported us on our most complex projects with high diligence, integrity, and most importantly passion.

Roles we supply

If it is a broadcast role, we either know the right person or we know exactly who to ask.

Directors and vision mixers. Broadcast engineers and technical directors. Camera operators, from a single op through to a full crew. Sound supervisors, A1s and A2s. Lighting. Replay and graphics operators. Editors. The senior people who carry a show, and the people coming up behind them.

Some of what we staff, clients have never had to book before. A delay operator is a good example. On a live tournament or any event with an audience, somebody has to manage the broadcast delay and make the call on anything that should not reach air, whether that is audio, a screen or something happening in the room. It is a job that only gets noticed when nobody is doing it. If you are not certain what your show actually needs staffed, describe the show and we will tell you.

One note on titles. Technical director means slightly different things in different markets, so tell us what the role covers on your production and we will match it properly.

A recommendation, or a booking we stand behind

Both are fine, and they suit different situations.

A recommendation. Sometimes the most useful thing we can give you is a name and a number. Go and speak to this person, they are very good. No fee, no involvement, and we are glad to do it.

A managed booking. When it is more than one person, when it runs across a series of events, or when the production is big enough that gaps are expensive, we take the role on properly and become responsible for it.

That second option is what most people mean by crewing, and it is worth understanding what you are buying.

The role gets filled, not just booked. You are not exposed to one freelancer's diary. Somebody is making sure that position is covered by the right person, and if anything starts to look uncertain we sort it out before it becomes your problem.

The admin comes off your desk. Coordinating a group of freelancers is a job in itself, and it is our job rather than yours.

One invoice. You pay us, once, instead of chasing paperwork with every individual on the crew list.

And the part that makes the rest possible: we pay people quickly. We do not wait to be paid before we pay our freelancers, and we run our books specifically so that we do not have to. Having been the freelancer waiting on an invoice, we would rather not do that to anybody. It is also the honest reason good people pick up the phone when we call, which is ultimately what you are hiring.

Tobin has depth of experience and knowledge, balanced with his can-do attitude and humour, making him essential to the team.

Some of the work

An in-house studio in London. Through the first half of 2026 we have kept the technical director's chair covered there with a rotating crew of senior TDs. The studio had a new system installed and the client wanted people with a real engineering mindset who could also vision mix, so the facility gets used to its full capability rather than a fraction of it. They get a reliable pair of hands every time without having to find them, which is the whole point of booking a role rather than a person.

A large European gaming tournament series. We provide a three-person team: a director and engineer, a senior camera operator, and a delay operator. Every edition has to look and run exactly like the last one, which is as much a crewing problem as a technical one.

Tell us the roles and the dates

Give us the shape of the production, what you need covered and when. If we have the right people we will say so, and if we do not, we will tell you that too rather than sending someone who is merely available.
